Opportunities for Giving
The Penn State Annual Fund
In recent years, annual funds have provided support for academic scholarships and programs, student and alumni activities, community outreach programs and the latest state of the art technology. Annual funds have also provided support for programs such as the Penn State Berks Lifeline to assistance students in crisis; matching funds for new engineering equipment; renovations projects on the Berks campus; Lion Ambassadors to share their Penn State pride through student tours and community service; and the Literary Arts Series brings guest speakers to the Berks campus.
Endowments
Endowed gifts are held by the University in perpetuity. The initial gift is invested, and a portion (typically about 5%) of the fund's market value is awarded annually for the purpose designated by the benefactor. Thus, the benefactor who makes an endowment gift today can feel confident it will continue to support its intended purpose far into the future.
Scholarships
According to President Spanier, “No student should ever be excluded from obtaining a Penn State degree because of personal financial circumstance.” Continued efforts to increase the number of scholarships available to current and future Penn State students is a top priority for development activities in the region and on the campus. Through the Trustee Matching Scholarship Program, impressive gains have been made in the number of scholarships for students.
