Opportunities for Giving
Penn State Annual Fund
Unrestricted annual gifts of alumni and friends, designated to the College or to an academic department or unit, create flexibility, and help Penn State produce world-class educators. Your annual gifts allow the college to support student activities, faculty development, and enhance new ideas and activities within departments. Department heads use discretionary funding provided by your designated annual giving to develop new programs, research, purchase computer equipment, and fund student participation in national student activities and events.
The College of Education is shaping a one-to-one computing environment and is moving toward requiring students in teacher preparation programs to own their own laptops. As school districts nationwide become one-to-one in their classrooms – where every student has a computer – the College recognizes the importance of leading aspiring teachers toward the incorporation and utilization of technology. Unrestricted annual gifts, or those designated for technology support, are available to help provide students with computers who would not otherwise be able to afford them.
As new tenure-track faculty members join the college, it’s important to provide them with the resources they need to hit the ground running. Thanks in large part to unrestricted annual gifts, the college provides new faculty members with start-up funds to jump start their research, which helps us attract first-rate, young talent as well as mid-career professionals with proven track records. Additionally, these funds have been instrumental in leveraging an increasing stream of external grants.

Endowments
"The College of Education is embarking on an important journey, a journey whose purpose is to establish our place as the premier college of education in the country . As a leader in educational research, outreach, and the preparation of a wide range of educational professionals, the college's role is to achieve excellence by building synergy between those who learn and those who teach, by proactively anticipating and meeting the changing needs of the twenty-first century students as well as educational institutions, and by actively participating in educational reform. We must examine the trends in education and forge new partnerships and programs that build upon today's strengths and break down the obstacles that limit people of all ages from realizing their future potential as learners. Please consider Investing in People at Penn State as we build a stronger foundation for our society, our culture, and our future." ~ Dean David H. Monk
Endowed gifts are held by the University in perpetuity. The initial gift is invested, and a portion (typically about 5%) of the fund's market value is awarded annually for the purpose designated by the benefactor. Thus, the benefactor who makes an endowment gift today can feel confident it will continue to support its intended purpose far into the future.
Trustee Matching Scholarship Fund for the College of Education
The Penn State Bookstore established a special Trustee Matching Scholarship Fund for the College of Education, as well as in each college at University Park. The Trustee Matching Scholarship Program aims to ensure that a Penn State degree remains within the reach of all qualified undergraduates, regardless of their financial means.
Since its inception, the Trustee Matching Scholarship Program has provided significant scholarship support to students by matching the fund's income with University dollars. The University will make annual additions to the spending account for the Trustee Matching Scholarship Fund in the College of Education equal to 5% of the initial principal as well as any contributions made by other individuals. These matching contributions will continue in perpetuity based on the value of the scholarship at that time.
Please consider contributing to this fund and, as a result, directly increasing the number of students who will be awarded a Bookstore Trustee Matching Scholarship in the College of Education. If you have an interest in creating your own named Trustee Matching Scholarship, please contact the Office of Development and Alumni Relations.
