Opportunities for Giving

Penn State Annual Fund

The annual gifts of alumni and friends, designated to the college or to an academic department or unit, create flexibility, and help Penn State produce world-class educators. Your annual gifts allow the college to support student activities, faculty development, and enhance new ideas and activities within departments. Department heads use discretionary funding provided by your designated annual giving to develop new programs, research, purchase computer equipment, and fund student participation in national student activities and events.

Endowments

Investing in People, a Penn State fundraising initiative, seeks to build a strong future for education upon a solid foundation of endowment. Endowed gifts are held by the University in perpetuity. The initial gift is invested, and a portion (typically about 5%) of the fund's market value is awarded annually for the purpose designated by the benefactor. Thus, the benefactor who makes an endowment gift today can feel confident it will continue to support its intended purpose far into the future.

Select fundraising objectives help accomplish this effort: college excellence, Trustee Matching Scholarships, and faculty support. These endowments funds, in combination with ongoing support for a variety of other important college activities, will stand as a vibrant and self-renewing investment in our society's most vital resources—its people.
