AccuWeather Founder Joel N. Myers Pledges $2 million for Penn State Weather Center
Joel N. Myers, the founder, president, and chairman of AccuWeather Inc. and current Penn State trustee and alumnus, has committed $2 million to help ensure Penn State’s continued international leadership in meteorology.
The gift will support the Department of Meteorology’s weather center including its new facility on the sixth floor of Walker Building on the University Park campus. It is the largest gift ever made to the department and among the largest ever received for programs in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. >>more
Penn State Altoona Receives $2.5 Million from Steve and Nancy Sheetz
Altoona residents Stephen G. and Nancy L. Sheetz have made a $2.5 million commitment to Penn State Altoona, the largest gift in the 70-year history of the campus.
The gift will offer students new opportunities to excel in entrepreneurial studies. “Steve and Nancy have been loyal friends of our campus, offering philanthropic support for many years,” said Chancellor Lori J. Bechtel-Wherry. “This latest act of generosity demonstrates their unwavering support of our community and their shared vision for Penn State Altoona’s educational goals.” >>more

Penn State’s Dickinson School of Law celebrated the opening of its new 114,000-square-foot Lewis Katz Building with a dedication ceremony Friday, April 24, 2009. The event also marks the start of a yearlong celebration honoring the 175th anniversary of the Dickinson School of Law, which held its first class on April 1, 1834. >>more
