Hometown: Brooklyn, New York. (Coming to central Pennsylvania was kind of a shock at first, but now I love it.)
Major: Biology
Career Ambition: Elementary school science teacher and/or pediatrician
Top Travel Destination: Brazil. I’d love to study abroad there. I’d also like to return to Haiti to see my grandmother (my parents are originally from there).
Favorite Thing To Do At Penn State: Attend football games. I love the atmosphere. The energy is amazing! It really makes you feel like you’re a part of Penn State.
Favorite Flavor of Creamery Ice Cream: Happy Happy Joy Joy (coconut flavored ice cream with almonds and chocolate chips)
Volunteer Activities:
- Second Mile, a sort of Big Sister program. I served as a mentor and role model for a group of three middle school girls.
- Being United for Social Transformation. The goal of this organization is to make students aware of social problems. We were especially active on World AIDS Day.
- Senior Class Gift Committee. I’m the Student Relations Co-Chairperson. My job is to get the word out about the senior class gift and encourage other students to join the committee and help out in the future. This is my last year here, and I wanted to make it count.
Why I Believe Giving Back is Important:
I’m the first person in my family to attend college. I always knew I wanted to get a degree, but who would have thought I’d end up at a great school like Penn State? Many people helped make my dream happen along the way. For example, I received a Bunton-Waller Scholarship that helped pay for my tuition and room and board. I’m so glad that I made it. It makes me want to give back to help other students achieve their goals, too.
